Aston Villa risk losing young star Chukwuemeka following contact with European powerhouse

Aston Villa run the risk of losing young star Carney Chukwuemeka, as his representatives have apparently met with Barcelona.

Villa have blooded a number of academy talents in the last few seasons. Jacob Ramsey has become a first-team regular, and the likes of Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Tim Iroegbunam have made a few appearances.

Another youngster who has graced the first team is Chukwuemeka. The 18-year-old made his senior debut last season, and has made more appearances during this campaign.

Chukwuemeka has played in 12 league games this season, starting twice. He is yet to score, and has provided one assist in his time in the first team.

However, there has been speculation over a move away from Villa Park. Despite having only appeared sparingly, a number of big sides have reportedly registered an interest, in both England and on the continent.

A move could be on the cards, too. It has previously been reported that clubs are on alert, due to his lack of game time, despite his age.

Barcelona are the latest side to be linked with a move for Chukwuemeka.

Sport reports that the European giants have met with the youngster’s representatives.

With just a year left on his contract, Chukwuemeka would be free to move on next summer.

As such, clubs are likely to start queueing up for his signature soon.

Barcelona move would be massive for Chukwuemeka

A move to such a big side would be massive for somebody as young as Chukwuemeka.

Jude Bellingham moved to Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham at 17 years of age, and has established himself as a star. As such, Chukwuemeka could well follow suit, and at an even bigger side, too.

It would be a loss for Villa, should Chukwuemeka be able to move on for nothing. Clearly, despite his lack of minutes so far in his senior career, he is a top prospect, which is proven by the teams that are interested in him.

However, had he already committed his future to Villa, Steven Gerrard may have given him more games to this point.

The manager is unlikely to want to utilise a player in his squad that will use those minutes as a springboard, and move on at the end of next season. He is much more likely to want to prioritise the careers of players who are committed to the club.
